October Visa Bulletin Shows Lengthy Delays for EB-3 Category
Category: General
The U.S. Department of State Visa Bulletin for October 2009 shows that the employment-based third preference category for Skilled Workers, Professionals, and Other Workers is backlogged for seven (7) years, with longer wait periods for nationals of Mexico, mainland-China, India and the Philippines. This means that all beneficiaries of employment-based third preference immigrant petitions are in for a long wait before becoming eligible for an immigrant visa and permanent residency.
Additionally, the Visa Bulletin reports that the non-minister special immigrant (“religious worker”) program, set to expire on September 30, 2009, is expected to be passed by the Senate on September 29 and signed by the President. Consequently, there will be no anticipated lapse in this program.
